Local History is tremendously important. In a fast changing world and in an area of London where demographics change so fast, our history can help ground our community and create a real sense of place. One of the reasons I (Matt) settled in the area was because of the sense of history: the wonderful mix of late 19th century town house styles with post-war terraces, ultra-modern new builds and 20th century conversions. We also have a number of precious local monuments. The Metropolitan Cattle Trough on Nightingale Road by the Finsbury Gardens, the New River Course...

These two photos are of the Bounds Green Road, both looking South towards Wood Green and the City beyond. I think the War memorial which can be seen in the false colour image must have been moved to its current location (next to the Prince of Wales Pub on Trinity Road) when the Bounds Green Road was widened later in the 20th Century....

Note a particularly fine moustache in the back row! We wonder where they trained, where they lived in Bowes Park/Bounds Green and whether any relatives still live in the area!? When we find gems of local history like this we’ll always try and post them here and if local people either know any information on the things displayed here, have photos you want to share or just want to comment – you’re very welcome to e-mail in to boundsgreenhome@btinternet.com or...
